Urban Windelen is the Executive Director of the German Energy Storage Association (BVES e.V.), bringing extensive expertise in environmental and energy law. Before joining BVES, he worked as a political and strategic advisor for major organizations, including Royal Dutch Shell and the Association of German Recycling Industry (BDE), focusing on energy and environmental politics.

With over 15 years of experience in the energy sector, Mr. Windelen has a deep understanding of energy and environmental law, having started his career at the headquarters of the German Christian Democratic Party (CDU). He studied law at the University of Bonn and the University of Trier, and has since applied his legal knowledge to various roles in the energy industry.

Deepak Gadhia is a pioneer in solar concentrating technology in India, renowned for his contribution to commercializing solar steam cooking systems. In 1994, he facilitated the transfer of Scheffler solar concentrator technology from Germany and developed the world’s first Solar Steam Cooking System for the Brahma Kumaris.

His company, Gadhia Solar, became a global leader in Solar Steam Cooking Systems, implementing more than 60 projects, including the largest system at Shirdi Temple, which serves over 50,000 meals daily. He also developed India’s first solar thermal air-conditioning system for a 160-bed cancer hospital in Gujarat.

In 2010, Deepak Gadhia exited Gadhia Solar to focus on his role as a trustee at Muni Seva Ashram. In 2018, he became Chairman of Sunrise CSP India Pvt. Mr. Thomas Moeller serves as the Director and Head of Origination & Structuring for Renewables at KfW IPEX-Bank, Frankfurt. With more than two decades of experience in the banking sector, he leads a team of Project Managers responsible for identifying and structuring financing for global renewable energy projects.

Before his current role, Thomas served as Head of Corporate Strategy and Sustainability at IPEX, advising the Management Board on strategic initiatives and spearheading projects to evolve the bank’s business model. His work focused on sustainability, establishing his team as a hub for sustainable finance within KfW-Group, and he played a key role in KfW's group-wide Network Sustainable Finance.

With over 25 years of experience in energy sector consulting, Anish is an acclaimed expert in energy sector reform, regulatory frameworks, strategic planning, investment, corporate strategy, energy markets, smart grids, and digital solutions.

Kumi Kitamori is the Deputy Director at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Environment Directorate. Prior to joining RIL, Dr. Jani was the Managing Director of Kanoda Energy Systems Pvt. Ltd., a technology and innovation-driven company specializing in the design and engineering of solar power systems and plants.

Dr. Jani has also served as the Principal Research Scientist at Gujarat Energy Research & Management Institute (GERMI), where he pioneered several renewable energy initiatives at both state and national levels. His efforts in the solar sector have included the training of over 1,500 solar professionals, launching the National Certification Programme for Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Installers, and setting up solar-focused ITIs in Gujarat.

He is an active member of the Skill Council for Green Jobs and has contributed significantly to skill development in India's renewable energy sector over the past 15 years.

Mr. Derek Michael Shah, Senior Vice President at Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T), is leading the Green Energy vertical under L&T Energy, which spans Manufacturing, EPC, and Development work in the Green Energy sector. Under his leadership, L&T is manufacturing Alkaline Electrolysers at Hazira, Gujarat, through a technology license agreement with European OEM McPhy Energy.

Mr. Shah is driving the development of large-scale Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia projects on both the east and west coasts of India, aimed at supplying global markets including Europe, Southeast Asia, and Japan. These initiatives align L&T with the global push toward sustainable energy.

With over three decades at L&T, Mr. Shah has held key positions in various divisions, including Metallurgical, Material Handling (MMH), and Power, where he has forged strategic partnerships with global technology leaders and executed significant domestic and international projects.

Eldin Wilson is the Head of Operations, India, at 2G Energietechnik GmbH, a role he holds at the German-based company 2G Energy AG. He has extensive experience leading the development of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) projects throughout the Indian subcontinent and supporting similar projects in Europe, including in Ukraine.

Throughout his distinguished career, Suorep has served in various challenging assignments with the Government of Tamil Nadu, including roles as Sub-Collector, City Commissioner, Managing Director of the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu, and Chairman & Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA).

In his tenure as Senior Deputy Election Commissioner at the Election Commission of India, Suorep played a pivotal role in overseeing the production and distribution of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), strengthening IT architecture, and ensuring the smooth conduct of elections in challenging states like West Bengal and Kerala.

He has also contributed significantly to the renewable energy sector in Tamil Nadu, leading the state's rollout of grid-tied solar rooftops and promoting large-scale private sector adoption of solar energy. Mr. Jishnu Barua, a former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1988 Assam-Meghalaya cadre, has had a distinguished career in public service. Over his tenure, he held key positions in the State Government of Assam and the Central Government, including roles as Deputy Commissioner, Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam, Director (Central), and Joint Secretary.

Mr. Barua eventually rose to the post of Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, from which he superannuated on 31st August 2022. During his tenure, he also served as Chairman of the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL).

In March 2023, Mr. Jishnu Barua was appointed as Chairperson of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), the statutory body responsible for regulating the power sector in India. CERC functions with quasi-judicial authority under the Electricity Act, 2003.

Lise Breuil, with an engineering background and a PhD related to the management of urban services in developing countries, has been with the French Development Agency (AFD) for over 17 years. She has worked across various infrastructure sectors, most recently heading the AFD Transport and Mobility division.

In September 2023, she was appointed as the Country Director for India, based in Delhi. AFD has been actively involved in India since 2008, with a key focus on sustainable urban development. This includes urban mobility, where AFD is financing metro projects in six Indian cities, as well as the CITIIS program, which introduces innovative approaches to urban development, water and sanitation, and solid waste management.

Since April 2018, Carolin Gassner has been heading the South Asia Department within KfW Development Bank. Her extensive career at KfW began in 1996, where she has held various leadership roles across multiple departments including Securitisation, Credit Risk Management, and Development Banking.

Prior to leading the South Asia Department, Carolin was the Head of the Financial Institutions and Country Risk Department within KfW Group’s Credit Risk Management division. Her deep expertise in managing financial institutions and risks has contributed to her leading roles in international development finance.

Carolin holds a degree in Economics (Diplom-Volkswirt) from Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen, and before joining KfW, she worked at the ifo Institute for Economic Research in Munich. Her professional background brings a comprehensive approach to international financial cooperation and risk management.

Sajay K.V. serves as the Chief Executive Officer for India at Zelestra, a Spain-based renewable energy Independent Power Producer (IPP), supported by the Swedish Private Equity firm, EQT.

A seasoned renewable energy stakeholder capitalist, Sajay believes in leveraging Renewable Energy as a Service (REaaS) to deliver net-zero power generation solutions. His extensive experience includes leadership roles at multinational companies like Siemens Gamesa, BrightNight, and Hero Future Energies. Sajay’s proven track record of success includes:

• A +7 GW renewable energy footprint across India and Sri Lanka, where he led the origination, development, and value creation of major renewable energy projects.
• Successful capital raises, securing $250 million in equity and $147 million in debt for IPPs in India.
• Pioneering the implementation of India’s first Wind Solar Hybrid project in Karnataka and the country’s first Wind RePowering project in Tamil Nadu.

Shri K. Rajaraman assumed the role of Chairperson of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) on August 1, 2023, following nearly 35 years of distinguished service in various leadership positions in both the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Before joining IFSCA, Shri Rajaraman served in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) until his retirement in August 2023, most recently as Secretary to the Government of India in the Department of Telecommunications. He holds a B.Tech degree in Electronics & Communications, along with a first-class MBA and a Master’s in Economics.

Shri Rajaraman’s career began as a Design Engineer at BHEL, Trichy. Over his years as an IAS officer, he held several high-profile administrative roles, covering areas such as investment promotion, foreign direct investment (FDI), public sector undertakings, industrial infrastructure, and VAT administration. He was also the Managing Director of Chennai Metro Railways during its early construction phase, and Commissioner for Commercial Taxes in the Government of Tamil Nadu. His experience also includes being Joint Secretary Expenditure in the Government of India and Additional Secretary for Investment and Economic Relations in the Ministry of Finance's Department of Economic Affairs.

Vivek Sharma is a distinguished business leader with over 22 years of experience in the energy and natural resources sector. As the Chief of the Energy Strategy Group at Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL), he oversees strategic planning, management decision support, and growth identification for the group’s energy businesses. His portfolio also includes emerging markets such as dispatchable renewable energy (RE), green hydrogen, energy storage, manufacturing, and digital transformation.

Prior to joining AESL, Vivek worked with CRISIL Infrastructure Advisory as Senior Director, leading the energy, sustainability, and natural resources practices. In this role, he worked closely with the Indian government on key initiatives, such as integrated energy policies, 24x7 power programs, utility reforms, renewable energy incentives, and the financial viability of discoms. He has also been part of several successful public-private partnership (PPP) and M&A transactions, particularly in the RE space.

Vivek has served on various committees on power sector reform, including being an honorary member of the V.K. Shunglu Committee on the financial viability of discoms. He has received numerous awards, including the Young Professional Award for outstanding contributions to the RE sector.

An economist with an MBA from Delhi University, Vivek is a published author of two books on regulatory reforms in infrastructure. He has also written numerous articles in newspapers and journals and regularly conducts training sessions for utilities, public sector undertakings (PSUs), and regulatory commissions.

Outside of work, Vivek values maintaining a work-life balance, incorporating physical activity into his daily routine. He enjoys watching movies, with a particular fondness for the *Godfather* series.

Manu Srivastava, a 1991 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, holds both B.Tech. and M.Tech. degrees in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi. Over the course of his 33-year career, he has spent 18 years working in the energy sector, covering natural gas, electricity, and renewable energy.

He has led groundbreaking initiatives in solar energy, most notably the 750 MW Rewa Project, which set new standards for solar power in India by delivering solar energy at rates lower than coal-based power. This project, the first in the country to supply solar power to an institutional customer, meets 65% of Delhi Metro's daytime energy needs. It has received the World Bank Group's President's Award, and is studied at institutions like Harvard University and Singapore Management University.

Srivastava also pioneered a unique Solar Rooftop project model that involves zero investment by beneficiaries and provides 25 years of savings. Under this model, Madhya Pradesh secured the lowest solar rooftop tariff in India, with the project being implemented across over a hundred organizations in the state.

Both the Rewa and Solar Rooftop projects have been recognized among the top 15 "Innovations in Public Administration" by the Capacity Building Commission, Government of India. Srivastava is widely engaged as an expert in renewable energy, both nationally and internationally, and currently serves as the Additional Chief Secretary of the Energy and New & Renewable Energy Departments in Madhya Pradesh.

His journey into the solar industry began while working for a US consulting firm, and he later served as the Head of Market and Communications at the German Solar Industry Association, where he became the association's spokesperson.

In addition to his leadership roles, Wedepohl has a background in broadcast journalism, trained at Deutsche Welle, and has earned his US degree as a Fulbright Scholar. He has also held roles as a press and public diplomacy officer at the German Embassy in Washington, DC, and worked in the communications department of DaimlerChrysler AG.

Since 2023, he has taken on the role of Managing Director for BSW Solar’s non-profit branch, focusing on advancing the solar and storage sectors.

Sh. R.P. Gupta is a retired IAS Officer of the 1987 Batch, Gujarat Cadre. He currently serves as the Chairman & Managing Director of the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI), having taken the position on 15th June 2023. With a vast career in public administration, Gupta has held numerous roles in the Government of India, including Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change.

He has also worked with NITI Aayog and the Ministry of Coal, and brings deep expertise in areas such as energy, environment, climate change, decarbonization, carbon markets, sustainability, and resource efficiency. His academic background includes a degree in Aerospace Engineering from IIT Kanpur.

SECI is a Navratna CPSU dedicated to renewable energy, playing a critical role in India’s renewable energy capacity growth and holding a Category-1 power trading license.

Kunal Saxena is the Head of Strategic Investments at AmpIn Energy Transition, bringing over 14 years of diverse experience across strategy, finance, banking, and operations. In his current role, he is responsible for driving strategic investment initiatives for the company, contributing to the growth of sustainable energy solutions.

He holds a Master's degree in Management with a specialization in Finance from ESCP Europe, Paris, and a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bombay. Kunal’s strong educational background combined with his extensive experience positions him as a key leader in the energy transition sector.

Rajat Verma is the Founder and CEO of LOHUM, India’s largest producer of sustainable critical materials, including EV battery materials. Under his leadership, LOHUM has built a dominant market share of approximately 80% in India’s battery recycling market and has emerged as the largest processor of critical materials such as Lithium and Cobalt.

Rajat's commitment to sustainability and innovation has led LOHUM to win several prestigious awards, including the FICCI India Circular Economy Award (ICEA) in 2024, the National Energy Efficiency Innovation Award (NEEIA) in 2023, and recognition as 'The Most Innovative Company of the Year 2022' by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

With over 25 years of experience in the technology industry, Rajat has played a pioneering role in the electronic waste management ecosystem, developing and commercializing solutions across India, the US, and the GCC. He is also an active early-stage technology investor and is deeply committed to India's role in shaping global growth.

Madhav Pai has been the Chief Executive Officer of the World Resources Institute, India, since April 2023. Over his 15-year tenure at WRI, he has played a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s strategy, structure, and growth, holding positions such as Interim CEO, Executive Director of the Sustainable Cities Program, and Director of EMBARQ.

As Executive Director of the Sustainable Cities Program, he influenced national and sub-national policies on urban transport, urban development, and electric mobility. He contributed to the Motor Vehicle Amendment Act, the national electric bus program, and the green hydrogen mission. Additionally, he expanded the Cities portfolio to transform Indian cities by integrating food, land, water, and energy systems to support India's low-carbon transition.

During his time as Director of the EMBARQ program, he supported landmark initiatives such as the Indore Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Raahgiri, and BusKaro. Madhav has authored numerous research papers and books on urban transport, resilience, and clean air.

Jochen von Frowein is the Director of Infrastructure & Energy, Global Equity at DEG, a part of the KfW group. Waleed Saleh Alsuraih is the Lead Energy Specialist at the World Bank, where he leads the South Asia regional energy program. His work focuses on enhancing connectivity and cross-border electricity trade to create more resilient, integrated, and low-carbon power systems. He leads teams dedicated to developing national and regional power grids to improve energy security and sustainability, while also overseeing technical work on interregional grid integration to accelerate the global energy transition.

Previously, Mr. Alsuraih served as Cluster Leader for the World Bank's Energy Advisory Services in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. There, he spearheaded cross-border transmission projects and helped lay the foundation for the Pan-Arab Electricity Market in the MENA region. He also served as a Program Leader, coordinating infrastructure advisory services across energy, transport, digital infrastructure, and Public-Private Partnerships for the GCC countries.

Rajiv Mangal is the Vice President (Safety, Health & Sustainability) at Tata Steel. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Honors) degree in Metallurgy from the University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management from XLRI Jamshedpur. Additionally, he co-founded IFC’s Scaling Wind program, which assists governments in developing and tendering bankable utility-scale onshore wind projects.

His career in wind energy began in 1993, where he spent five years in Madagascar designing, building, and installing windmills for rural irrigation projects.

He has been instrumental in developing strategies for implementing these systems at NTPC.

He has served as the founding Chairman and Vice-Chair of the European Solar Manufacturing Council (ESMC) from 2019 to 2024. His past roles include Director/CEO of the Berkeley Education Alliance for Research (BEARS) in Singapore (2017-2018) and Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) from 2006 to 2016. Prof. Weber was also a Professor of Physics and Solar Energy at the University of Freiburg, Germany, and was on the faculty of UC Berkeley’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering (1983-2006).

Prof Dinesh Kabra is the Forbes Marshall Chair Professor of Energy Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay, Mumbai, and Professor in the Department of Physics. Mr. Pankaj Gupta is the World Bank's Regional Director for the Infrastructure Vice Presidency in the South Asia Region at the World Bank. His contributions to the field have resulted in over 42 patent grants and more than 20 publications in technical journals of repute.

Mr. Jayarama Prasad Chalasani brings with him a rich experience of more than 40 yearsin the Indian infrastructure industry, transcending a mix of both public and private sectors, at companies such as NTPC, Reliance Power Ltd, Punj Lloyd, and Suzlon. He is a mechanical engineer who is widely acclaimed for his project management and people leadership skills. Rated among Asia's Best CEOs on multiple occasions, Mr. Chalasani has been recognized for his leadership and employee engagement skills. He started his career with a public sector enterprise – NTPC, and grew up the ranks over the years. During his stint at NTPC for over 16 years, he has helmed various roles while executing numerous power projects. Mr. Chalasani’s next assignment was with the Reliance Group. As CEO, he was instrumental in Reliance Power becoming the largest private sector company in power by market capitalization. He was also responsible for starting India’s largest coal mine operations in the shortest possible time. He has also led the transition of BSES from a power distribution to an infrastructure company. He successfully led the bid process for Delhi Power Distribution System (in the year 2002) and was the first CEO of two Discoms acquired by BSES. After Reliance Power, Mr. Chalasani was with the Punj Lloyd Group (a Global EPC company) as the Group CEO and Managing Director. Spearheading the Group, his primary focus was on improving operations, augmenting processes, and strengthening various business entities. Mr. JP Chalasani had been the Group CEO of the Suzlon Group for the period from April 2016 till July 2020. Asthe Group CEO, hisrole wasimproving operations, enhancing and simplifying processes, and leveraging both HR and Finance to position the company for strong and sustainable growth while creating value for stakeholders. A strong believer in business fundamentals, technology, and innovative business models, he spearheaded the overall performance of the organisation. Shri K.R. Jyothilal IAS, a 1993 batch IAS officer is currently the Additional Chief Secretary, General Administration, Power and Forest & Wildlife Departments, Government of Kerala. Parag Sharma is the Founder and CEO of O2 Power, a renewable energy platform established in November 2019. The company raised $500 million from investors EQT and Temasek to develop renewable energy projects in India. Parag previously served as COO at ReNew Power and has over 25 years of experience in the power sector. Harish Hande is a renewable energy entrepreneur with over 28 years of grassroots experience in understanding, developing and deploying sustainable energy solutions for underserved communities. He co-founded SELCO India in 1995 as a for-profit social enterprise and SELCO Foundation in 2010- a not-for-profit ecosystem builder to enable sustainable energy solutions for livelihoods and healthcare. The efforts seek to demonstrate that decentralised energy solutions can be truly sustainable when combined with appropriate technology, financing and ownership models suited to the contexts of the poor, and these can bring developmental benefits in a climate resilient manner for last mile communities. Susan Ferguson is the Country Representative for UN Women India. Ms. Ferguson has had a distinguished career in international development spanned by themes of gender equality and social justice. With over 21+ years of experience in investment banking and corporate finance, he specializes in private equity (PE) fundraising and mergers & acquisitions (M'A) transactions for clients across multiple sectors including, infrastructure, power, logistics, and real estate.   Based in Mumbai, he has been an integral part of the Avendus investment banking team for over a decade. Ms. Sujata Gupta is the Director of the South Asia Team, Energy Sector, Sectors Group of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). She joined ADB in 2003 and has worked on the public and private sectors of ADB as well as for resource mobilization from development partners. Sujata has a PhD from the London Business School, University of London and Master’s and Bachelor’s from the University of Delhi. Before joining ADB, Sujata was Senior Fellow and Director of the Policy Analysis Division, at TERI (then the Tata Energy Research Institute), New Delhi. She has also worked as a visiting researcher at the International Institute of Applied System Analysis in Austria. Gagan Sidhu is a Director of the Centre for Energy Finance at the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), a leading independent policy research institute. His work at CEEW is focused on accelerating the flow of sustainable finance, including for India's energy transition. Prior to joining CEEW, he was CFO of GMR Renewable Energy, and before that, he worked in the investment banking industry across multiple geographic locations, including Tokyo, Singapore, London, and Dubai. Gagan holds a BA (Hons) degree in Economics from Delhi University’s Shri Ram College of Commerce and an MBA from Duke University.

Shri Raj Kumar Chaudhary is Chairman & Managing Director of Navratna Company, India’s premier Hydro Power Company and a Schedule ‘A’ Miniratna Enterprise of Government of India. He is a graduate in Civil Engineering from BIT (Sindri) and has also done Advance Diploma in Management. He joined Navratna Company in 1989 as a Probationary Executive (Civil) at Koel Karo HEP, Jharkhand. He steadily rose in his career to the post of Director (Technical), additional charge of Director (Projects) and ultimately Chairman & Managing Director of Navratna Company. He has worked at various positions in Cost Engineering Department, Design & Engineering Department and four Construction Projects of Navratna Company viz. Koel Karo, Kalpong, Teesta-V and Subansiri Lower HEP and two construction projects in Bhutan viz. Mangdechhu & Punatsangchhu-II HEPs. He possesses experience in all aspects of development of a hydro project from concept to commissioning and has contributed significantly in development of hydropower in India and Bhutan. He worked at Kalpong HE Project from conception to commissioning and the project was commissioned 16 months ahead of the schedule. It was a remarkable achievement for Navratna Company as the project was in a very remote island of Andaman & Nicobar. He played active role in commissioning of Teesta-V HE Project (510 MW) in Sikkim and Mangdechhu HE Project (720 MW) in Bhutan. He was also instrumental in repairing of HRT of 1020 MW Tala HEP Project in Bhutan as an expert member. He is also Chairman of NHDC Limited (JV with Govt. of M.P.) and LDHCL (JV with Govt. of Manipur).

Mohit Bhargava retired as the Chief Executive Officer of NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) and was also Executive Director of Renewable Energy at NTPC Ltd. He was responsible for spearheading implementation of Renewable Energy projects pan India for NTPC Limited and creating a name in the RE space. NTPC Limited is the largest power generating company in India and one of the largest globally with an installed capacity of over 75 GW. NGEL is currently a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Ltd. He took over the RE portfolio when NTPC Group had a RE pipeline of only 1 GW. During his tenure of over 55-months as the Head of RE vertical of NTPC, the RE pipeline increased to over 25 GW. This includes operational, under construction and tendered / planned projects. These capacities have firm off-take agreements in place. Consequent to the creation of the strong RE portfolio, NGEL is geared to meet the target of achieving 60 GW+ capacity by 2032. The robust growth has ensured that NGEL/NREL are rated at the highest level by credit rating agencies (same rating as NTPC). He has a rich experience of over three-and-a-half decades which includes commissioning of power plants, maintenance activities, procurement and planning. He has also overseen the development of the NTPC’s long-term Corporate Plans involving setting the annual targets, preparing and pushing through the various strategic and growth initiatives. During his tenure as Head of Corporate Planning, he lead many policy advocacy initiatives, many of which were implemented by the Government. He is an Electrical Engineer and has undergone Leadership training at Harvard Business School and S P Jain Institute in Singapore. During his service period in NTPC, he also served as nominee Director of many Joint ventures / Subsidiaries.

Neerav Nanavaty brings over two decades of extensive experience in the energy sector, with a distinguished career spanning North America and India. His expertise lies in leading and managing green energy initiatives and energy services with some of the world's most renowned green energy companies. Neerav holds a degree in Electronics Engineering from NIT Karnataka and an MBA in Finance and Strategy from Duke University, USA. His background combines technical proficiency with strategic financial insights, making him a dynamic leader in advancing renewable energy solutions.

Eiji Wakamatsu is currently Senior Representative of JICA India Office. His responsibility includes energy, forestry, agriculture, volunteers, and public relations. Prior to this role, he was the director and deputy head of the Office for Global Issues and Development Partnership at Japan International Cooperation Agency, responsible for overseeing partnerships with multilateral and bilateral development institutions, South-South and triangular cooperation, as well as contributing to international dialogues on development. Mr. Wakamatsu has previously served as senior deputy director for Energy and Mining Group for sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as deputy director for TICAD (Tokyo International Conference for African Development) and planning division and deputy director in charge of Ethiopia in Africa department. He was also advisor to the Japanese Executive Director for the World Bank from 2010 to 2013. His overseas posting was in Afghanistan from 2005 to 2008. He first joined JICA in 2002. He has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Doshisha University, Japan, and a master’s degree in Governance and Development from the Institute of Development Studies of Sussex University, UK.

With an honours degree from Shri Ram College of Commerce, ICWA and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, Mr Bhalla navigated corporate finance for three years before joining the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1990. His later worked in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry as Joint Secretary, and then as Additional Secretary, for over five years where he was responsible for India’s trade relations with the neighbouring countries and Iran, as well as export promotion, world-wide, of engineering products. During the tenure, he also worked as Director General, Trade Remedies and led the India Brand Equity Foundation as its CEO. He is currently responsible for planning and executing India’s ambitious goals for the renewable energy sector as the Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. He has been conferred with the Today’s Traveller Award 2014 for Exemplary Contribution in Planning and Structuring of Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. As a Fellow Member of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India, he was also conferred with the inaugural CMA Ratna Award 2016 by the Institute for significant contribution to the cause of society and the profession as a policymaker.
